Several recently taken spy shots of a test mule give us a new insight on the next-generation XT-3. Namely, the camouflaged prototype of Cadillac’s crossover was caught testing only a few days ago. The 2018 Cadillac XT3 will come as a much-needed addition to the brand’s pretty outdated crossover and SUV lineup. Among the most notable changes, expect the redesigned model to adopt a new platform and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Of course, Cadillac will fit it with the latest technology in order to make it competitive in the race with its German rivals. There’s still no specific word on the all-new XT3 release date but it’s most likely to arrive by mid-2018.
2018 Cadillac XT3 Design
The brand new XT3 is likely to share its underpinnings with the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Thanks to the modern front-drive-based architecture, this luxury crossover will shed considerable weight relative to its predecessor. In terms of dimensions, the XT3 test prototype seems to be marginally larger than most of its rivals. Despite the heavy camouflage, we’ve been able to discern Cadillac’s signature grille flanked by projector beam headlights. At the back, expect the 2018 Cadillac XT3 to sport vertical taillights inspired by the full-size Escalade. For the most part, its exterior styling will draw inspiration from the larger XT5, including the wedge side profile. However, don’t expect it to offer impressive ground clearance, since the XT3 will spend most of the time in urban areas anyway. As for the interior design, details are still scarce. We expect to see a similar cabin layout to that found in other Cadillac’s crossovers.
When it comes to the XT3’s engine range, specific details have yet to come. However, the test mule did reveal an intercooler fitted behind the front fascia, which points to a turbocharged engine. It will most likely come in the form of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that already powers the ATS. The powertrains currently produces 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. As for the 2018 Cadillac XT3, expect it to have a slightly lower output at its disposal. It’s also likely to use a nine-speed automatic transmission. Chances to see the 310-hp XT5’s 3.5-liter V6 inside the redesigned XT3 are pretty slim.
Pricing and Competition
In terms of pricing, the 2018 Cadillac XT3 should be in line with its direct rivals. So, expect it to compete with the $33,000 BMW X1 and $32,000 Audi Q3.
