2018 Honda Passport is the new SUV, of this Japanese car manufacturer, which will be placed between the CR-V and Pilot models. The claim on the return of Honda’s SUV, with this name, corroborated information that the company filed a request for protection of names Passport. Start of production is not yet specified, so chances are small that this model find in showrooms before 2018. According to some information, maybe even 2019. It is therefore likely that this model will be signed as a 2019 Honda Passport.
Those who are better acquainted with the history of motoring, especially those who prefer a Japanese vehicle manufacturers, have not forgotten that Honda offered its own SUV, called Passport. This model was represented from 1993 to 2002. The Honda Passport was a badge engineered version of the Isuzu Rodeo SUV. The vehicle is produced in assembly Lafayette, Indiana, United States. The then Passport has been designed for customers in the US market.
During his first ‘stay’ in the market, Honda Passport was not recorded great results. For this reason, it is withdrawn from production, after less than, decades of its life span. In the US market, this model was replaced by a new, larger Honda Pilot SUV. However, Honda has decided to offer a new model to its customers, to meet the needs of those for whom the CR-V small model, while at the Pilot model is too big.
Recall, Honda Passport was part of the partnership Isuzu and Honda company. In addition to this model, these producers cooperated and the Isuzu Oasis, Acura SLX, and other models. The partnership between these companies ended when Isuzu ceased to produce passenger cars, after the restructuring of the company. However, Honda has felt the need to have to offer SUV models, which sold the US market. So are the Honda CR-V and Acura MDX models, and then everyone else.
2018 Honda Passport Specs
Older or previous model went through its two generations. Meanwhile, Passport was kind of a compact SUV with five-door, with front-engine.
In its first generation model offered a 2.6-liter I4 and 3.2-liter V6 engines. It turns out that the I4 engine is weak for this model. Thus, the second generation arrived only with the upgraded 3.2-liter V6 engine, which is now delivering 205 horsepower. The vehicle was used by 4-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission. We offer the version with RWD and AWD.
Considering that the 2018 Honda Passport should take place under the Honda Pilot SUV, there are indications of possible powertrain. More specifically, the new Passport should be a shortened version of the Pilot’s. Accordingly, some sources say that under the hood will find a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 280 horsepower.
By the beginning of production and, later, the beginning of the sales there are still a lot of time. This leaves plenty of space for various upgrades and new ideas. It should be expected that Honda still offer an option powertrain. By all accounts, Honda Passport 2018 comes as refreshment and in response to the new models of competition.
