BMW has given a lot of details about the new 8 series, as well as the sports M8 model. Although none of the two models have been introduced, the company has already prepared the 2018 BMW M8 GTE. This is a racing version of the BMW M8. Confirmation of this is a teaser sketch of the model. Namely, BMW Motorsport has released a draft of this model on Facebook. In addition to the teaser drawings, photographs of the future M8 GTE model, which were made during the testing of the vehicles at Lausitzring, were published.
According to company announcements, the 2018 BMW M8 GTE will debut in January 2018, in the 24 hours of Daytone. Also, it is confirmed that this car will participate in the legendary 24-hour race of LeMan.
New BMW 8 Series
It’s been rumored for a while now, and BMW has confirmed that it will offer a new generation of 8-series. The company registered and protected the designs for new models. Among the registered models are 825, 830, 835, 845, 850, M850, and M8. As for the M8, it will be available in three body versions. These are the BMW M8 Coupe, the M8 Cabrio and the M8 Gran Coupe. Finally, the M8 GTE is a racing version of the M8 model.
2018 BMW M8 GTE Specs
The company announced that the new BMW M8 will be light and more agile than its competitors in the class. More precisely, this model should be the lightest in class, thanks to the use of aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber. The new M8 comes in a coupe release, in a 2 + 2 configuration. The standard model will also be based on the M8 GTE model, which is intended for the FIA WEC championship.
According to previous information, the standard M8 gets a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with over 600 horsepower. There is also an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, as well as a four-wheel drive. Such a M8 should have an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds. Also, there is a possibility to offer a V12 engine version.
As for the 2018 BMW M8 GTE, it has certain modifications. Compared to the standard version, this model receives a special aero body package, suspension, brakes, exhaust system and interior. Also, BMW emphasizes that this model will be more advanced and better than the BMW M6 GTLM model, in every way. It should be light, sharper and agile.
