The cooperation between Toyota and BMW is showing results. After it is known that these two companies are working on a joint project to create a new generation of sports coupes, another successful collaboration of these giants has been confirmed. Namely, the 2018 Toyota Verso 1.6 D-4D Stella, which underneath the hood is covered by BMW’s aggregate. Nevertheless, this model stays with the same spirit, and it is intended for those who require a reliable and comfortable family car.
Just two decades ago, Toyota cars were considered to be extremely high quality, but unspecified in terms of design and imaging. Everything has changed, and now Toyota is one of the leading automobile manufacturers on the world market. Design, technical solutions, sales strategy and other factors have been brought to perfection. One of the models, which stands out in the segment of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), is certainly Toyota Verso. Also, the quality indicator is the arrival of the new Supra sports coupe model. Namely, it is known that BMW and Toyota bring together a joint project. A new generation of Toyota Supra and the BMW Z4 will soon be on the market.
2018 Toyota Verso Specs and Features
The 2018 Toyota Verso has undergone certain design changes. The biggest changes are visible on the front of the vehicle. There is a noticeable front mask, which is ‘borrowed’ from the Toyota Auris model. There are also new LED daytime running lights, as well as LED back lights. All in all, the new Verso looks like a ‘nicely packaged’ family car. Because of its specific design, it looks more coherent and less than it really is. A range of practical solutions, usable space, and performance, put it ‘shoulder-to-shoulder’ with larger models in the MPV segment.
From the inside, the vehicle has a high level of equipment and the correct material quality and finishing. The driver’s position is excellent because he sits high and the seat is adjustable in length and height and has a heating and cooling system. And the dashboard is perfectly designed and positioned. Also, the cabin has a large number of bulkheads and space for storage of things and small things. The sound insulation of the cab is excellent, the controls are at your fingertips, while the steering wheel is multifunctional. The equipment should also mention automatic air conditioning, as well as ABS, EBD, BA, VSC and TRC systems.
Toyota Verso is one of the leaders in the MPV segment, thanks to its economical engines. Nevertheless, most of the attention is drawn to the version of the 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine. This model is a fruit, the so-called down-sizing. Namely, the version with this engine replaces the so-called “bigger” engines, the volume of 1.9 liters, or 2.0 liters.
The 2018 Toyota Verso 1.6 D-4D Stella uses the BMW’s diesel unit. Compared to the larger, 2.0-liter engine, this engine develops 12 horsepower less, more precisely 112 horsepower. And the maximum torque is smaller than the larger 30 Nm engine, which is 270 Nm of torque in figures. The engine is combined with 6-speed manual transmission. With this engine, the new model rises to ‘hundreds’ in 12.7 seconds, with a top speed of 185 km/h. In all, it is not much lost, and the fuel economy is at a much higher level. The maximum power, the engine develops at 4,000 rpm, while the maximum torque is at 1,750-2,250 rpm. The fuel consumption is at an enviable level and is 3.9 hwy/5.5 city/4.5 l combined /100 km.
With a 4,460 l/1,790 w/1,620 hmm dimension, and a 2,780 mm braking distance, the new Toyota Verso offers exceptional comfort for every family. In addition, the vehicle is extremely light (1,520 kg) and has an enviable luggage space of 440-1,740 liters. The Toyota Verso 2018 is available in a 5 and 7-seater configuration. Both versions have the same bodywork along the same wheelbase. Of course, the five-seat version offers more comfort for passengers and more luggage space. But the seven-seat version is scalable because the rear seats are mounted on rails and are adjustable in length.
